Although we are advised to eat all types of fruit to help with your diet and daily intake of vitamins and nutrients some fruits are more popular than others. One very versatile fruit which is eaten worldwide is the strawberry.

Strawberries are an excellent source of nutrients and are very easy to use, you can put them in a wide variety of foods, desserts and drinks. As they are very bright in colour often children love them and find them very appealing to eat.

Strawberries are often referred to as the queen of fruits and were first grown in France in 1740 and there are now grown all over the world. They do vary in size, shape and flavour and often no two strawberries will taste exactly the same. For commercial growth they are often grown in huge fields and in the off season people grow them in greenhouses. They are the only fruit which has their seeds on the outside which makes them unique.

Strawberry Nutriton or Super Food?
Although people often claim that strawberries are one of the super foods they are far higher than that. These fruits have far more nutrients than other super foods and are low in calories and absolutely fat free. Making them the ideal fruit to eat every day and include in your children's recommended five a day. This amazing fruit is very high in nutrients and the actual leaves and even the roots are often used in medicines and treatments. They contain vitamin A, C and B6 as well as potassium and fibre and are also great anti oxidants. Your body and immune system benefit from these and the stronger your immune system then the more likely you are to be able to fight disease and illness.

Potassium has been showed to be very good at combating heart disease and high blood pressure and because strawberries are high in this they are a great fruit to eat. They are also ranked as the highest level fruit to help with fighting cancer. To have along and healthy life you will need to boost your immune system which strawberries can help to do. Your body absorbs the nutrients from the strawberries quickly and easily.

Strawberry nutrition is also very good for your skin and are proven to help to give you healthy hair they are also great as part of a weight loss planning. The aspartic acid in them helps to break down the fat and to remove the excess toxins in your body. Overall strawberries are not only very good for your whole body and skin but they taste great too. You should try to buy them when they are in season as they will taste their best then.

You can often find them in stores all year round but the ones in season are bigger, brighter and taste better. You can eat strawberries direct from a container or mixed in with other fruits, there are no rules to how you eat your strawberries. They taste great no matter what you do with them and however you choose to eat them you will know they are doing you good every time you do.

Strawberry Nutrition Juices
  • 3 handfuls of strawberries
  • 1 mango
  • 175ml of sparkling water
Juice together the ingredients before adding the sparkling water.
  • 5 strawberries
  • half a lime
  • 1 teaspoon of cordial (flavour of your choice)
Put the ingredients into a blender and mix with a little cold water.
  • 15 strawberries
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 fresh pepermint leaf
  • 1 cup of ice cubes
Put all the ingredients into the blender including the ice cubes and mix until the ice cubes have a crushed look about them.
