Our pumpkin smoothie recipe is just so delicious that we suggest you just indulge at traditional times such as Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Because our smoothies are made from canned pureed pumpkin, you can enjoy a smoothie at any time of the year - while sitting by the fire on a cold dark January or February night or the next time you go for a picnic on a warm summer’s day.

Smoothies are also a great way to kick start your day at breakfast time. Whatever time you choose - they are perfect.

We have used cows’ milk in our recipe but if you have an allergy to dairy or just don’t like it, take a look at some non dairy alternatives. Coconut milk is a good choice for both of our smoothie recipes, with the extra added health benefits it has.

Health Benefits of our pumpkin smoothie recipe

Pumpkins are full of vitamin C, Vitamin E and Potassium. So what do those vitamins and mineral do?

Vitamin C - pumpkin is full of vitamin C which helps us fight off infection such as colds and flu.

Vitamin E is perhaps one of the best known anti-oxidants which can help protect our bodies from pre-mature ageing and some diseases such as cancer.

Potassium - this helps give us lots of energy, maintains our bones and helps control our blood pressure.

Cooking your own pumpkin

If you want to cook your own pumpkin rather than use canned pumpkin then it’s as easy as, and very similar to, boiling potatoes.

1. Chop the flesh of the pumpkin into small pieces.

2. Place the pumpkin pieces into a pan of salted water.

3. Boil for about 20 minutes or until tender.

4. When cooked - drain.

5. Season with salt and pepper according to your taste buds.

6. Mash the pumpkin just as you would mashed potatoes.

One cup of cooked pumpkin has about 49 calories in it - just another good reason to enjoy a smoothie.

Pumpkin Smoothie Recipe

Recipe 1

  • 1 ½ cups of canned pureed pumpkin
  • 1 ½ cups of cold milk
  • 3tbls syrup
  • sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice
Put the pureed pumpkin, milk and syrup into a blender and smoothe for about 30 seconds.

Pour into a glass and sprinkle the top with pumpkin pie spice.

Drink immediately.

Recipe 2

  • 1 ½ cups of canned pureed pumpkin
  • 1 ½ cups of evaporated milk
  • 1 banana
  • 1tsp of cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp of ginger
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 2tbls honey
Blend all the ingredients together for about 30 seconds.

Pour into a glass with ice.
