Prune Juice For Constipation

It's often recommended to pregnant women because of the many health benefits of prunes, as well as the abundance of fibre to help relieve constipation.

It's a delicious juice to drink just because you enjoy it. Why not start your day with a glass, making your breakfast a healthy one?

Children love this juice because of its sweetness and as long as they don't drink too much it's a good way to keep them regular.

It's best not to give prune juice to babies as it could give them colic. Always ask your health visitor what's best for your baby if it suffers from constipation.

You can easily make prune juice for constipation or simply for an enjoyable breakfast drink. First you must buy some prunes. Most supermarkets will sell prunes in packets so they should not be hard to find.

Take two large handfuls of de-stoned prunes and place them in a bowl. Now fill the bowl with just enough water to cover the prunes. Leave soaking for a few hours or better still overnight. Take the soaked prunes and the remaining water and blend in a blender for a few minutes until smooth. Pour into a glass to enjoy. If you are not keen on the taste of prunes and want to use prune juice for constipation then why not add one part prune juice and one part apple juice. This makes a very pleasant drink.

Some of the health benefits of prunes are : full of iron and potassium which are vital for healthy blood; contains vitamin A and C for healthy hair, eyes and skin; chromium which is very important in maintaining normal sugar levels; full of fibre which will help keep you regular.

We have some recipes below which use prunes, so why not try one of them for taste and start enjoying the health benefits of prunes. It's wise to avoid drinking prune juice shortly before you do anything energizing as you may find instead of running round the track you are running for the toilet!

Apple Prune Delight
delicious mixture of prunes and apples with a hint of cinnamon
  • 65g prunes ready to eat and stoned
  • 350ml apple juice
  • 3 tablespoons of natural yogurt
  • pinch of cinnamon
Pour the apple juice over the prunes. Leave to soak overnight or for a few hours. After soaking put the mixture into a blender with the yogurt and cinnamon and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass to serve.

Tasty Energizing Breakfast.
A tasty way to use prune juice for constipation
  • 8 prunes ready to eat and stoned
  • 1 apple
  • 2 pears
  • 1 small carton of natural yogurt
Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

Running Juice
Get the best health benefits of prunes with this high energy juice.
  • 25g prunes ready to eat and stoned
  • 2 pears
  • 125g spinach
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass to serve.
