There are many interesting mango fruit facts that people are unaware of in addition to the common perceptions about them.

Although the mango fruit is generally associated with tropical climates, it actually was first cultivated in Southeast Asia. In order for it to grow, it has to be in a hot dry climate. This is why is grows well in other climates such as South America, the Caribbean, Haiti and Mexico. The United States gets most of its mango fruits from Mexico.

In addition to tasting good, the mango fruit has many health benefits as well. They have plenty of vitamins A and C. Actually it is said that when the mango is still green, it has a lot of vitamin C. On the flip side, when it gets more mature, it gets more of the vitamin A. Another great mango fruit facts, they also have loads of beta carotene and potassium.

Great Food For Dieters
It is a great fruit for anyone that is on a diet because it has a lot of fiber, not that many calories, juice for energy no cholesterol and very low sodium. In fact, if you eat just one mango a day, it has about 40% of the fiber that you need for the day. For anyone on a diet, fiber makes you feel fuller. This much fiber is great for dieters. However, fiber helps in other ways as well. It helps to lower your cholesterol and blood levels and prevents certain cancers. In addition to having health benefits, mango is also known as being a comforting fruit. Many say that it makes you feel good after eating it. This could be as a result of the enzymes that are contained in the mango. It is said that these enzymes have properties that can make stomach problems much better. This is why mango is found in certain medicines that relieve stomach pain. Believe it or not, but these same enzymes have properties that can be used to make meat more tender. This is why it is used in many different marinades which are ancient and commercial in nature. The mango has been used in this manner since it was first cultivated back in India.

The Leaves Are Toxic
Although the mango may have health benefits, it also has a few unappealing features as well. Mango enzymes are very beneficial, but on the other hand, the leaves are very toxic. One should never burn the leaves or wood of mangos because the fumes can cause serious damage to both the eyes and lungs. This is quite interesting since many customs have been associated with the leaves of a mango tree. For instance, mango leaves are used as decorations at weddings. This is in hope that the couple will have a lot of children as a result of their marriage. Mango leaves are used again when the couple actually delivers a male child. The leaves are hung outside the door of the new parents as a form of celebration.

Mango Fruit Fact - Juices and Smoothies

  • 1 mango
  • 1 orange
  • 1 handful of strawberries
Remove the stone from the mango and peel the oragne. Place all the ingredients into a juicer before pouring into a glass full of ice.
  • half a mango
  • 1 banana
  • 2 slices of pineapple
  • 1 cup of coconut milk
Remove the stone from the mango and peel the banana and pineapple. Juice the mango and pineapple. Pour the juice and the milk with the banana into a blender and smooth. Pour into a glass with ice.
  • 1 mango
  • 3 apples
  • 2 passion fruit
Stone the mango and cut the passion fruit in half to remove the flesh. Now juice all the everything together before pouring into a glass with ice.
