Often they are treated with heat, killing all the goodness of any fruit. How often have you seen a smoothie sitting in a store being exposed to daylight which instantly kills all the goodness inside?

Low fat smoothies recipes are a great way to eat fruit and veg that you might perhaps leave on the table. I can think of nothing nicer on a summer's day to sit in the garden with a long cool smoothie. On the other hand smoothies are a great way to lose weight. Not all fruit and vegetables are low in calories, however, if you replace your breakfast or lunch with a smoothie, then you can include most fruits. If you are drinking a smoothie between meals, then check the calorie content.

Why drink smoothies?

If you feel overweight, sluggish and just worn out it could be that drinking fresh fruit in a smoothie is the answer.
  • Juice is just brimming over with nutrients which your body is crying out for. By replacing a meal a day with one of our recipes you will feel more energetic and give your immunity a huge boost.
  • By replacing two meals a day with a juice or smoothie then you begin the process of de-toxifying.
  • Fruit is full of water of which most of us do not drink nearly enough.

Low fat smoothies recipes tips :

  • Use skimmed milk instead of semi-skimmed or full fat milk
  • Use low fat yoghurt
  • Use frozen fruit to make your drinks crunchie
  • Add liquids into your blender first before the fruit
  • If your drink is too thick then try adding a little water
  • Wash fruit before using
  • Use fresh fruit for the best taste; bruised old fruit will not have as many nutrients
  • Be adventurous with your smoothies and try making your own recipes

Watercress Smoothie
  • 1 large bunch of watercress
  • 150 ml low fat yogurt
  • Pepper to taste
Blend all the ingredients together and pour into a glass to serve.

Raspberry Cream
  • 100g fresh raspberries
  • 100ml skimmed milk
  • 1 scoop of low fat ice cream (optional)
Blend the raspberries and milk together and pour into a glass to serve.

Strawberry Summer

Strawberries are full of energy-giving zinc
  • 150g strawberries
  • quarter of a fresh pineapple
  • 150g low fat strawberry yogurt
  • 4 ice cubes
Blend all the ingredients together and pour into a glass to serve.

Berry Fruit

Blueberries are full of vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C
  • 100g blueberries
  • 1 orange
  • 150g low fat yogurt
  • 1 scoop of low fat ice cream (optional)
Blend all ingredients together and pour into a glass to serve.
