liver juicing Liver juicing - The most important thing you can do for your liver is to eat a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Juicing is an excellent way of obtaining lots of vitimins and minerals however don't forget your body also needs fibre so along with your juice eat a piece of fruit or veg.

By avoiding drinking alcohol you do your liver a huge favour. Alcohol is a poison to the body which the liver has to get rid of. Over time over indulgence can actually cause damage which in some cases can be irreparable.

Here is an interesting fact: If you are trying to lose weight drinking alcolhol will only slow you weight lose. Being a poison your liver must deal with the alcohol first therefore any food eaten at the time will be stored as fat.

Look at some of the functions of the liver to find out why this is such an important organ :

  • Regulation of Blood - the liver removes excess glucose from the blood and stores it as glycogen converting it back when required.
  • Production of Bile - the liver continuously produces bile which is then stored in the gallbladder to be used in assisting digestion.
  • Storage of Iron - the liver stores millions of red blood cell every day.
  • Detoxication - poisonous products such as alcohol are detoxified in the liver.
  • Storage of Vitamins - vitamins A and D are stored by the liver.

A particularly good way for your liver to start the day is by squeezing a little lemon juice into a glass of warm water. Lemons are a good all round cleanser.

Avoid drinking cold water first thing in the morning as this only gives your stomach a fright!

Apple and Carrot Liver Juicing - beetroots are a great blood cleanser, apple is a detoxifier and celery helps reduce acidity.
