Calories in Grapes

How many calories are there in grapes and how good is grape juice?

The calories in grapes are low at about 60 calories for a handful.

The grape gets a bad press because of it's high sugar content but that is balanced by being rich in vitamin C and E, calcium and potassium.

If you are feeling under the weather then try drinking grape juice, full of vitamin C and antioxidants, as it can really help boost your immune system, helping you feel more energized and, of course, healthier.

Grapes are considered a good laxative so if you are suffering from constipation, try drinking or eating a few grapes.

The history of the humble Grape

Long before Noah's time people knew about grapes. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that the humble grape makes superb wine! The ancient Greeks and Romans were very knowledgeable about grapes and wine and they had many vineyards.

There are many varieties of grapes :

red, black and green
  • Italia - green or black in colour with a musky flavour
  • Sultana - green in colour with a sweet flavour
  • Muscat - black or red in colour with a sweet flavour

Grape Facts

Grapes are best stored in the refrigerator and can safely be put into your juicer.

1 handful of grapes will give you about 75ml of juice.

Calories in grapes, per handful - about 60.

As with any juice if you are on a diet the calories in grapes needs to be counted, so be careful how many handfuls you put into your juicer. However grape juice is naturally sweet and is delicious served chilled with ice cubes or, for something special, serve with sparkling water.

Packed with fibre this juice is especially good for constipation.
  • 25 grapes
  • 1 pomegranate
  • 4 apples
juice together the grapes and apples, then after removing pomegranate seeds add the juice.

A great cleansing juice
  • 2 pears
  • 2cm fresh ginger
  • 1 handful of grapes
Juice the fruits and ginger together and enjoy.

A real Treat
  • 1 handful of grapes
  • 1 pawpaw
  • 2 large figs
Deseed the pawpaw and put all ingredeints into a blender, mix until smooth.
