Maybe a sweet potato juice recipe is not the first vegetable juice you might think of to juice but it’s certainly worth trying out. Once you taste this juice you will be hooked.

The sweet potato has a distinctive taste which is a mixture of sweet and spicy.

A Little History

Sweet potatoes were eaten long before the regular potatoes that we know today. They were grown in South America as long ago as the Incas.

In England it’s known that King Henry VIII loved sweet potatoes as much as he did women, in fact it was thought that the sweet potato was an aphrodisiac!

Buying and Storing

Buy the medium sized ones as the bigger ones can be a bit tough. The potato should feel firm. Don’t buy ones which are sprouting.

Keep in a cool dark place and they will store for at least a week.

Sweet Potato Juice Recipe Nutrition

Some of the nutrients contained in this little beauty are Vitamin A, E and C, Iron, Calcium, Potassium, Folate Acid and lots of fibre.

Vitamin A helps vision and the ability to see in the dark

Vitamin E is a great antioxidant which helps to prevent premature ageing in the body.

Vintamin C helps to absorb iron into the body, maintain the elastic in your skin, heals wounds and, of course, the benefit most people know is it can help the immune system fight off colds and flu.

There is also a high content of phytochemicals which are well known to fight cancer.

Carotenoids are a great immune booster - so go ahead and eat up your sweet potatoes to keep those coughs and colds away.

Sweet Potato Juice Recipe using Raw

Lots of people think they must cook potatoes and therefore blend the potatoes before they can be used in a juice. This is simply not true. In fact by cooking the potatoes you are losing lots of the lovely nutrients and enzymes which the potato contains.

Take the raw potato and simply pop it into your juicer like you would any other vegetable - the taste is amazing.

Once juiced the sweet potato has a thick milky texture which can be added to fruit juice to make a smoothie as an alternative to milk. The result is a lovely creamy taste.

Are you ready to make a sweet potato juice recipe? Just take the ingredients and put them into your juicer. Pour into a glass with ice and enjoy.
