We have put together some delicious smoothie recipes for you to enjoy. This is a great way to get the benefits of fruit that you perhaps don't like eating. Sometimes five a day can seem a lot so a smoothie is a nutritional way to get round this problem. Smoothies are a great way to help you stay healthy and if used as part of a calorie controlled diet, stay in shape.

Kids and adults alike love a smoothie. They can be drunk at all times of day, breakfast, lunch, supper and in between. Be careful if you are watching the calories as they can sometimes be loaded, depending on what they include. They are easy enough to make yourself and take to work but beware because the layers between the fruit and the milk will separate and although the taste will be just as enjoyable the appearance may be a little off putting. It's always best to drink your smoothies as soon after making them as you can.

You should invest in a good blender for your smoothie recipes : we recommend the Kenwood. With three settings, mix, smooth and pulse, it can do most jobs such as smoothies, liquidizing soup and making baby puree.

The basic ingredients of a smoothie recipe is fruit, milk or yogurt. But you can add anything you like from custard to ice cream, from full fat milk to soya milk - the choice is yours.

Sweeteners - add some runny honey, syrup or sugar.

Chill your smoothies using ice cubes or frozen fruit or yogurt.

Below is a list of common fruit to add to a smoothie. Use fresh fruit to get the best in nutrition and taste.

Some of the more common ingredients you might want to include in your smoothies are milk, goat's milk, almond milk, soya milk, custard, peanut butter and ice cream.


Banana peanut butter smoothie
  • 3 bananas
  • 2 tbls of peanut butter
  • 1 small carton of vanilla yogurt
  • 200ml of chilled milk
Put all the ingredients into the blender and smoothe for about 30 seconds. Drink immediately and enjoy.

Strawberry Smoothie
  • 200ml chilled strawberry milk
  • 170grm strawberries
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of ice cubes
Put all the ingredients into the blender including the ice cubes and smoothe for about 30 seconds. Serve immediately.

Orange and Pineapple Smoothie
  • 150ml orange juice
  • 1 mango stoned
  • Quarter pineapple peeled and cored
  • 1 passion fruit peeled
  • 1 small carton of vanilla yogurt
Place all the ingredients together in the blender and smoothe for about 30 seconds. Serve immediately in a glass.

Orange and Banana Smoothie
  • 1 cup of fresh orange juice
  • 2 cartoons of natural yogurt
  • 4 bananas
  • 1-2 teaspoon of runny honey
Place the ingredients into the blender and smoothe for 30 seconds. Serve straight away in a tall glass.
