It doesn't matter if temperatures are soaring outside or temperatures are plummeting, freezing and snowing - kids love them.

For that matter most adults will happily drink one at any time too, but take in the fact that you are reading this from an ice cream addict!

Involve your kids if you are making smoothies for them, its all part of the fun and will encourage them to drink fruits which are good for them and they might not necessarily otherwise entertain. After all who minds what fruit you are drinking when there is ice cream involved too!

Don't just limit your ice cream smoothie recipe to your kids, as they are delicious at any age. The next time your friends come around take your smoothie outside into the garden sunshine or sit in the warmth of your lounge or conservatory and enjoy.

Like all smoothies it's just imagination which limits the smoothie potential. Any flavour of ice cream and any fruit can be used although some combinations are better than others.

Make sure the fruit you use is fresh and preferably organic. Don't compromise on taste or nutrition by using old bruised fruit past its best.

Full milk, half milk (semi skimmed), coconut milk, yogurt, almond milk, soya milk, goats milk are just some suggestions for including in your ice cream smoothie recipe. You can probably come up with your own ideas. If you need to add extra sweetness, try adding a teaspoon of runny honey.

We have put some easy smoothies together for you to enjoy. Use your blender instead of your juicer to make the smoothie, as it's all part of the pleasure to have small bits of fruit included for texture and taste. Remember to wash all fruit before using.

Drink your ice cream smoothie recipe immediately after making as if you leave them, layers will appear and although it will be just as delicious to drink it will look very unappetising.

Strawberries and Custard - Enough for 2 people :
This recipe is very popular although a little on the fattening side!

• 200ml of custard
• 200ml of chilled milk
• 250grm of strawberries
• 2 scoops of ice cream

Place ingredients into the blender and smoothe for about 30 seconds. Pour into a glass to serve.

Strawberries and Ice Cream - Enough for 4 people :
A delicious ice cream smoothie recipe for everyone

• 300ml of chilled milk
• 300ml of strawberry yogurt
• 175g of strawberries
• 4 scoops of vanilla or strawberry ice cream

Place all the ingredients into the blender and smoothe for about 30 seconds before pouring into a glass to serve.

Banana Delight

Cuisinart ICE-21R Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker, Red

- Recipe enough for 4 people :

• 450ml of low fat vanilla yogurt
• 300ml of chilled milk
• 3 bananas
• 4 scoops of ice cream

Place all the ingredients into the blender and smoothe for 30 seconds. Pour into a glass to serve.

Fruit Salad - Recipe enough for 2 people :

• 200ml apple juice
• 250grm strawberries
• 350grm Cantaloupe melon
• 4 scoops of ice cream

Take the skin of the melon and cut into chunks. Place all the ingredients into a blender and smoothe for 30 seconds. You may want to add honey for a little extra sweetness. Pour into a glass to serve.
